Farmers Market Season Has Begun!

While some Farmers Markets are year-round, most of the ones here in the mid-shore area are seasonal. As of April 16th, both the Easton and St. Michaels Farmers Markets are back in action and the Cambridge Farmers Market started back up this week. The once a month Tilghman Little Big Market also held their first event of the year on April 27th.

You might be wondering, why should you care? Hopefully, you already know that Farmers Markets are a great way to support local businesses, reduce your carbon footprint by eating local and in season foods, and to connect with your community.

The St. Michaels Farmers Market, in particular, is a fabulous market because it is a producers only market that requires everything being sold to have been made within 60 miles. This means you are guaranteed to be eating local, fresh food and that the money you spend stays within our community.

You can also find local musicians playing at the market each week, say hi to your neighbors, chat with local business owners and more.

If you want to check out a market, the St. Michaels Farmers Market takes place Saturdays from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the public parking lot behind Pemberton Pharmacy. Note that the St. Michaels Farmers Market will not be happening on May 14th due to the Running Festival.

The Easton Farmers Market takes place Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the public parking lot around the Easton Goodwill, between Harrison Street and North Washington Street.

The Cambridge Farmers Market takes place on Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Long Wharf Park at the end of Mill Street, along the Choptank River.

The Tilghman Little Big Market takes place on the last Sunday of the month from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, so the next one will take place May 29th. It is located at the old Phillips Wharf property, now known as Tilghman Wharf.

Year round markets on the Eastern Shore include the Kent Island Farmers Market, the Camden Avenue (Salisbury) Farmers Market, and the Ocean Pines Farmers and Artisans Market. For those of us living in the mid-shore area, these require a bit of a drive, but are worth the drive if you’re craving outdoor shopping during winter months.

The Kent Island Farmers Market is Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm (it ends slightly earlier in the winter) at Cult Classic Brewery. This market is popular with locals and folks who commute through the Kent Island area.

The Camden Avenue Farmers Market takes place in the parking lot of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, just south of Salisbury University, on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 6:00 pm, with slightly shorter hours in winter months. This is market focuses heavily on local farms, providing mostly food options including wild caught seafood, local dairy, and produce.

The Ocean Pines Farmers and Artisans Market takes place in Whitehorse Park on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm during summer months and 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in winter months. While there is some produce at this market, it is definitely heavier on the Artisan side of things so it’s great when your shopping for gifts.
