GivingTuesday

GivingTuesday began in 2012 as a day to encourage people to do good. Since then, GivingTuesday has evolved into a standalone nonprofit that promotes year round giving, with a special emphasis on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

For GivingTuesday this year, on Tuesday, November 29th, nonprofit organizations around the world will be actively seeking donations to support their work, with many fundraising platforms such as Facebook, supporting these efforts by waiving their fees and matching donations up to a certain dollar amount. Studies show that 35% of giving happens in the last 3 months of the year, so the timing of GivingTuesday aims to provide an outlet for that giving.

Here at the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center, we are so excited about this year’s GivingTuesday that we are pledging to pick up 1 piece of trash for every $1 that is raised as part of this one day event. We want our supporters to know that we take our community and our commitment to a healthy Chesapeake Bay seriously and that their financial support has a real impact.

In addition, we are seeking matching sponsors that are willing to match the donations received on GivingTuesday. Matching sponsors may be businesses or individuals who want to encourage others to donate to Phillips Wharf. If you, or a business you are associated with, are interested in being a matching sponsor, please email [email protected].

Your support is so important. It keeps our employees paid, our animals fed and well cared for, our oyster restoration program running and even expanding, our social media accounts active and engaged, our monthly newsletter informative, the Fishmobile educating, and ensures our nonprofit’s continued existence.

Without you, the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center would not exist. We are so thankful for you and we hope you’ll join us virtually on GivingTuesday this year to celebrate and support the continuation and expansion of our programs! Please save the date, November 29th, and keep an eye out for future posts (on social media and in next month’s newsletter) on how to donate on GivingTuesday and make your donation go even further to protect the Chesapeake Bay!
